Fareham Match Report

The first tournament of the year was a great day out for the large number of under 10s and 8s from Havant playing. Lots of players were playing their first games against other clubs. A sunny day and great hospitality from Fareham was a great way to do this.

Under 10 A team

Havant under 10 A team had the most experienced players from Havant although about half the team were new to under 10s hockey.  This team played against some other very strong under 10 teams and the standard of hockey was very high. The team played really well and scored some great team goals. The excellent play led to good wins against strong Chichester and City of Portsmouth teams and a 4-0 win against Haslemere. Against Fareham and Petersfield the team lost narrowly and also lost a less close game against a very strong Gosport team.

Highlights were; the excellent defending by Charlotte and Amy; some excellent wide play from both Toby’s, and Darcy; tenacious midfield battling by Theo and Millie; brilliant tackling, passing and one header by Thomas; goals galore from Robert; and the best goal of the day from Martha. All round the team was excellent. Next week we need to remember to pass the ball faster, both the speed of the ball and our decision about when to pass.

Players player(Theo only voting): Thomas, tackling and passing

Coaches player: Robert and Toby J for listening to my advice and goals galore

Under 10 B Team

An excellent effort saw the Havant U10 B team kick off the season with a solid team performance. The team was a real mix of existing, new and very new players who gelled quickly and produced some good results.

Highlights were a solid 2-2 draw against a good Hamble team (which we could have won; hitting the post in the last minute) and a battling 2-2 draw against Petersfield.  In all the team scored 7 goals across the tournament, which is a great achievement in itself.

Some standout moments were Lauren A’s leadership in defence, a great goalline clearance from Charlotte, Sia’s tenacity across the field, Fin’s tracking and marking, Masy and Tori’s can do attitude, some excellent wide play from Lauren B, Ella the midfield dynamo and our goalscoring supremo Lara.

We have a great base to build on for the B Team and I’m sure the team will go from strength to strength as their skills and experience increase.  Well done all!

Players Player : i forgot to ask, sorry!

Coaches player : Lara and Ella for their excellent attitude and teamwork.

Under 8 Team

I don’t have a report for the U8s, cough cough James!

However i heard that they had a great tournament winning a number of games.  From what i did see of the U8s there was some excellent defending, good skills on the ball and some energetic attacking play.

Report to follow (hopefully) if anyone would like to send me one i’m happy to publish it!

Details for Haslemere to follow when i get them.

I’ve also added a link to sign up to email alerts at the very bottom of the website, a few parents asked me how to do it.   If you scroll down to the bottom of the the page you’ll see an area to   “Follow Blog via Email”, enter your email and you’ll get an update whenever there is a new post.

cheers,

Neil
