It was a cold and wet one today in Haslemere! Many thanks to all the parents and players that represented Havant today it was great to see such a large and vociferous turnout from the Minis.
Match reports below for the U10s, if anyone would like to volunteer to write up an U8 report for me it would be much appreciated! Just email me and i’ll post it up. From what I saw they all had great fun including a well deserved win. Well done U8s!
Next Sunday we are back to normal training at Havant College, however it’s Halloween dress-up time. Feel free to let your little ghouls come dressed in their most scary halloween costumes for training (gum shields, shinpads and sticks still needed!).
At the end of the session Tom usually (well he did last year) organises a mad sweets scramble for the kids, where we throw the sweets into the air for the kids to grab as a halloween treat.
Can i ask for parents to bring some donations of sweets on the day to add to the halloween sweet pot? Anything greatly received! I’ll put something in the dugout (a cauldron?) so we can all chip in and the kids get a treat.
Onto the match reports…
Under 10A Team
Havant under 10 A team had an excellent festival today at Haslemere. All the team were a pleasure to coach and really improved from the previous week and during the festival today. We won three matches comfortably, drew one which we were unlucky not to win and lost two. The games we lost were some of the best hockey we played. Especially the 1-0 defeat to Gosport where the team played superbly. The most pleasing thing for me was how much the team improved their team play. This included tenacious defending and some excellent passing moves and team goals. This was typified by one of our goals where Theo won the ball, passed to Thomas, Thomas passed to Darcy, who passed to Martha who set up Robert to score.
Players player this week was Robert (lots of goals again!)
Coaches player was Thomas for massively improving his game over the two festivals this week.
Under 10B Team
The team had an early benchmark of how tough this tournament would be during their first game with a 10-0 loss to Haslemere Boys 2’s. However, the really great thing was that heads stayed up and they were raring to go for the next game. With the addition of Lara to midfield and building more knowledge of positions and tactics, huge improvements were made and although there were no wins or draws to savour, 2 narrow 1-0 loses to Haslemere Boys 3’s and Petersfield 2’s were closely fought matches. We became more focused on trying to score and were helped by the tenacious Pippa and the sprinting support of Sia, Georgie, Rebecca, Anna and Lara. We came really close, but
not quite close enough. Jon lost his £10 bet in Ladbrokes, but they all continued to smile and want more. Despite no goals, Pippa our out and out centre forward was voted our ‘Player of the Tournament’ by the team. Charlotte gave everything and so did Lauren, mainly in defence. Austin Williams, with his customary leg slides was literally on his knees at the end. Thank you to Annie and the Austin fan club for the amazing cakes and to all the positivity of the parents. You know we were all winners today!
