The last 8s tournament of the season … and a 2-2 draw in the last game between Havant to share the spoils.

For the first time this season we split the teams unevenly to give those playing their last game in the 8s a chance to play together. I remember Fred, Danny, Doug and Elsa turning up aged 5+ and now look at them …

Lots of lovely goals from Danny and Elsa, Jude poached a couple, Dougie popped one in during a goalmouth scramble and Fred scored his first goal of the season after a 40 yard run. Magnificent.

Haslemere just pipped Havant 1 to win the tournament but it was really close. For me, Danny was player of the tournament in Havant 1 Matilda was player of the tournament in Havant 2 but there were so many good performances including Scarlett and Archie who tackled brilliantly and Sam and Luke passing the ball and Nikil and Aimee showing courage in the midfield.

Thanks to Scott for stepping in to help coach too and keeping spirits up.

This was my last tournament with the 8s (just 4 training sessions left this season) as I’m hoping to move up and help other age groups next year after 5 years of Sunday morning alarm calls!

A huge thanks to all the parents for their support today and over the season. It has been a real pleasure to coach your children; hopefully they have picked up some skills, had lots of fun and developed an enduring passion for playing team sports in the right spirit.

On a final note, there will be a mobile catering facility (burger van) serving the usual range of hot and cold drinks, hot dogs, bacon butties, burgers, etc., and possibly even hot soup, and sweets, etc.. Just thought you should know.

Bronze 8s at the John Wright Tournament

It was a close run thing … 3 more goals would have turned Bronze to Gold as Winchester, City of Portsmouth and Havant all finished level on points with 3 wins, 1 draw and 1 loss each. We lost Elsa for some of the tournament with a stick-to-the-head injury but it was great to see her back on the pitch in become our leading scorer in the tournament (and scored a few more from 1 yard outside the scoring zone). Jonas struck the ball as well as anyone across the 5 teams and Danny scored a lovely brace of goals. Well done to the whole squad and those who kept spirits up even when they were on the sideline. Thanks too to Imi for umpiring and for her brilliant support.
